1065 first year students receive student loans for 2021


Thousands of Mulungushi Universit first year students , in Zimbabwe, have received student loans from the Higher Education Loans and Sholarships Borad (HELSB) for 2021.

The University has confirmed that 1065 students have received the student loans. 598 students were given 100 % fully funded student loans, 466 more students were awarded with 75 percent funding towards their eduction and a few given on a 50 percent agreement.

Corporate Communications Officer Chiselwa Kawanda confirmed and explained that the board received 1,218 applications however only 1 thousand and 65 applicants were eligible for them while 153 were ineligible.

According to Ms Kawanda most applicants were males recording a number of 1 218 applications. 422 more applicants were female.

The board was very happy to receive applications from students living with disabilities stating that education is for all and urged more physically challenged students to apply for these loans.

“We were very happy to receive applications from different students showing their eagerness to education. 950 students applied under the science category while 268 students applied under the non-science category,” said Ms Kawanda.

Ms. Kawanda added: “The loans for the awarded students will cover Tuition fees and book allowances only.”

The board is keen to help more children to acquire the education they deserve. However, the board has said they will keep supporting students in all possible ways to give them a better future.
