Thank U rewards cardholder win’s R1 million cash

A routine shopping trip for flight attendant and Kempton Park resident, Olivia Ndebele, to the Red Square store in the Eastgate Shopping Centre in Johannesburg turned out to be an extraordinary day for her and her family.

She was selected as the R1 million prize winner for October in thank U’s Million and More monthly competition. Shopping with a thank U card at one of Edcon’s stores will automatically enter customers into a lucky draw. Customers will then stand a chance to win R1 million and a million more in prizes monthly.

Olivia purchased make-up to the value of R2 500, which gained her automatic entries into the competition, and her name was drawn as the lucky grand prize winner.
Olivia was thrilled when she heard she had won. “I had no idea that I stood a chance to win, I knew about the competition, but I was still so shocked to win.” Olivia and her husband, James Ndebele and children Sibusiso, Khanyisile and Khayalethu, plan to re-invest the money and start the business of her dreams. “This has changed my life, and I can’t thank thank U and Edcon enough,” says Olivia. Officially receiving the cheque for her prize money at the store where she won, Olivia said she has always been a loyal Red Square shopper and plans to continue to shop at the Edcon group stores in appreciation for winning.

The thank U rewards programme was recently revitalised to include collaborations with additional partners, more rewards and benefits for customers and in addition, automatic entry into the Million and more monthly draw with a chance to win mega cash and other prizes.

According to Clynt Lund, General Manager: Loyalty at Edcon, “The total prize money in the Edcon thank U’s Million and more monthly competition is R2 million. The first prize is the R1 million, won by Olivia in the October draw. The second prize, for two customers, are two Kia Picantos worth R140 000.00 each, followed by a third prize of two holidays worth R25 000.00 anywhere around South Africa.” Some of the other prizes include cell-phones, bursaries and airtime vouchers.

One of the exciting introductions is a new partnership with Engen, South Africa’s largest fuel retailer. Cardholders are rewarded with 150 thank U points per litre of fuel filled up at Engen Service Stations. All these benefits from a rewards programme that is still free to sign up for.
