Takuwani Riime men’s movement to carry the batton beyond women’s month

“Takuwani Riime”, a Venda expression meaning: “Let Us Stand Up Together!” is calling on all men to be part of institutionalising a responsive men’s movement with the launch of Men Championing Change programme.

The Men Championing Change programme aims to bring about a cohort of men who are protective of women and children and to create an enabling environment in which men can dialogue and inspire positive values related to sex and sexuality.

Activities of the Men Championing Change programme will officially kick off at the National Men’s Summit and Expo taking place at Ebandla Conference and Hotel, Durban from 24 – 26 August 2018.

The  National Men’s Summit and Expo, organised by the Men’s Sector of South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) Civil Society Forum in partnership with the Department of Social Development and other organisations will bring together over 500 men and boys representing various sections of society from across the country to seek lasting solutions against gender-based violence, toxic masculinity, discrimination and femicide, as well as empower and educate men on human rights.

“We want use the Men Championing Change programme to acknowledge that men and boys are equal members of society who live within families and  communities. Our priority is to develop a strong front of men who educate other men and inspire positive change that subsequently result in prevention of new HIV infections and gender based violence,” says Dr Matome Kganakga of Takuwani Riime.
