World Cleanup Day, the largest civic action event in the world happens every 3rd Saturday in September.
In 2019, 21.2 million environment heroes joined in on an epic 36-hour green wave of cleanups across the globe – beginning in New Zealand and traveling around the world before ending in Hawaii.
Even in the midst of a global lockdown, World Cleanup Day 2020 united more than 11 million people in 166 countries.World Cleanup Day is a call for action in the transition to the Circular Economy. By picking up the trash with our own hands, we experience firsthand the problems caused by our “linear economy”. The next step is to rethink the way in which we design, produce, consume and dispose of our products.
World Cleanup Day is globally a massive event – and a strong brand. South Africa is rapidly emerging as the next big country in this movement.
Covid Tracking
World Cleanup Day established a partnership with HealthDocs to offer free Covid tracking and tracing to all organizers and participants of cleanups.
Partner campaigns
World Cleanup Day happens on the same dates as Clean-up and Recycle Week, National Recycling Day and Ocean Conservancy Week. Together, these movements expect more than 150 cleanups in South Africa between 13 and 18 September.
