The Amy Foundation is delighted to announce its upcoming Mandela Day event on 18th July 2024, honouring the iconic Nelson Mandela’s enduring legacy. On this significant day, attendees will witness an impressive showcase of skills and initiatives organised by the foundation together with Youth Skills Development (YSD) learners. The event will feature confectionery, beauty services (including express manicures and pedicures, neck and shoulder massages, foot and hand massages, and express gel manicures), as well as sewn and handcrafted items.
Mandela Day is celebrated annually on Nelson Mandela’s birthday, 18 July, to honour his 67 years of public service. The day is a global call to action for people to recognise their power to make a positive impact, just as Mandela did throughout his life. It’s an opportunity for people worldwide to engage in community service and improve the lives of others.
At the Amy Foundation, we inspire and empower our students to unleash their entrepreneurial spirit and start their businesses through a series of innovative programmes, workshops, and mentorship opportunities. By cultivating a culture of creativity, resilience, and innovation, we provide our students with the necessary tools, knowledge, and support to turn their ideas into successful ventures. These ventures not only benefit them individually but also contribute to the growth and prosperity of their communities. We believe that by instilling a strong sense of self-belief and a can-do attitude, we are laying the foundation for future visionary entrepreneurs.
The YSD Programme at the Amy Foundation focuses on equipping young people with practical skills and knowledge to help them become self-sufficient and employable. Through this programme, students receive training in various disciplines, including culinary arts, beauty and wellness, sewing and crafts, technical and handyman and entrepreneurial skills. The programme also offers mentorship and support to help students transition from learning to earning.
The main aim of the Mandela Day Pop-Up Market is to allow our students to showcase their skills and to give the community a platform to interact with and support our learners as they embark on their business journeys. The Mandela Day celebration will take place at the Amy Foundation, located at 2 Dagbreek Street, Sybrand Park, Cape Town.
The Amy Foundation invites all Cape Town residents to join us on this wonderful day of celebrating the father of the nation, Nelson Mandela, by supporting and engaging with our budding entrepreneurs in our YSD Programme.
“On this day, you can expect colour, activity, and lots of love. Don’t miss out! Spend your Mandela Day with the Amy Foundation, because supporting is caring,” said Trudy Louw, YSD Assistant Programme Manager.
“Our Mandela Day Pop-Up Market is not just an event; it is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students. By gracing us with your presence, you extend a hand of support and encouragement to these budding entrepreneurs. See you at the Amy Foundation Pop-Up Market, where every purchase tells a story of empowerment and creativity,” added Kevin Chaplin, Managing Director.
As Nelson Mandela once said, “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” This quote embodies the spirit of our YSD Programme and the determination of our students to overcome challenges and achieve their dreams.
