Additionally, unprecedented flooding and adverse weather conditions have led to catastrophic disasters, intensifying the socio-economic challenges in these areas.

The Transnet Foundation is committed to responding to the needs of communities effectively and impactfully. With a focus on health, education, livelihoods, capacity building, and grant-making, the Foundation’s initiatives are supported by the dedicated efforts of Transnet employees who actively participate in volunteerism. A significant highlight of the Foundation’s health initiatives is the Phelophepa healthcare trains. Since 1994, these trains have delivered primary health services to an estimated 15 million people, earning recognition as a global flagship program. In the education sector, the Foundation has invested in providing additional classrooms, science and technology infrastructure, and ICT equipment such as laptops, aimed at strengthening academic outcomes for the country’s youth.
Supporting Youth and Community Sports
The Foundation also plays a crucial role in nurturing soccer talent through its sponsorship of the Transnet/South African Football Association (SAFA) Football School of Excellence. This institution has produced renowned international players, along with many youths who have been selected to play in national clubs across the country.
