Scholarship opportunities for local learners

Learners from local high schools in Somerset East, Cookhouse, Bedford and Adelaide once again have the chance to apply for Cookhouse Wind Farm funded scholarships, which now offers scholarships to   Public Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges, should learners wish to complete an occupational or skills development programme.

“This is the first time since the scholarship programme launched in 2016 that local learners can apply to these Colleges, thereby expanding their prospects,” said Elton Gordon, Special Projects Manager for Cookhouse Wind Farm.

The Cookhouse Wind Farm recently embarked on a Bursary Roadshow, targeting Grade 12 learners at high schools in the beneficiary communities.  Presentations were conducted at each of the eight schools and Scholarship Application forms distributed via the School Principals for dissemination to learners.

“Our presentation focuses on a number of study fields that are being funded through the Cookhouse Scholarship Programme. These range from engineering, physical science, law, pharmaceutical studies and nursing, and with the recent amendments to the Cookhouse Scholarship Policy, learners can expand their horizons by applying to TVET Colleges, which are registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training,” added said Elton Gordon, Special Projects Manager for Cookhouse Wind Farm.

The Cookhouse Wind Farm’s Scholarship programme aims to provide tertiary education funding for youth living within a 50km radius of the Wind Farm, with the purpose of contributing towards human resource development in fields considered critical for the South African economy. The Programme offers Full or Partial Scholarships. Schools include Gill College (Somerset East), Johnson Nqonqoza Secondary (Somerset East), Aeroville Secondary (Somerset East), Cookhouse Secondary (Cookhouse), Templeton High School (Bedford), Lonwabo High School (Bedford), Adelaide Gymnasium (Adelaide) and Sipho Camagu Secondary (Adelaide).
