Mamas join with Mergon Foundation to refine their kitchen skills

Ā The Clover Mama Afrika 2019 cooks and bakers returned for the last course of the year. This training session was made possible by a new project partner, Mergon Foundation and it was dedicated to baking and cake decorating.

Clover Mama Afrika says that their project partner Mergon Foundationā€™s has been instrumental in supporting enabling them to provide their 2019 group with a specialised course in baking and decorating. The baking training included a special treat which was to share Prof Elain Vlokā€™s (Clover Corporate Services Manager) late motherā€™s Fruit Cake recipe. She felt that at this time of the year, to be able to make the best fruit cake and sell to worthy clients will make their festive season a profitable one.

ā€œIt was also my pleasure to share my passion for baking cupcakes, box cakes and to decorate them with good old fashion butter icing. They all did extremely well and Iā€™m confident that this course will stand them in good stead,ā€ explained Prof Elain Vlok.

These training sessions are really appreciated by the Clover Mamas as they gain so many new tips and have their old training refreshed, and they leave with the additional knowledge that they can use in their own bakeries as well as to upskill those in their own communities.

Trainees, Mamas Felicity Maluleke of Soweto, Dorah Semenya of Seshego in Polokwane, Phomolo Raisa of Botshabelo in the Free State and Doris Ndingane of Keiskammahoek in the Eastern Cape as well as member, Charlie Louw, representing Mama Daphne of Roodewal, explained that this training helped them with upskilling their cake decorating talent. ā€œWe thoroughly enjoyed baking the ā€˜beerā€™ box cake and decorating it, those will definitely be a hit for the local nursery schools and many clients,ā€ they agreed.
