Free online courses offered to unemployed youth

The National Electronic Media Institute of SA (NEMISA) together with the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies is calling all unemployed youth to register for free online courses.

NEMISA a digital skill training institute which will be coordinating and facilitating the registration process for these courses. The free courses are brought to you by Coursera and include data science; coding; app development; digital marketing and artificial intelligence.

The duration of the courses ranges between four and eight weeks. Grade 12 is desirable but not an essential requirement and familiarity with the internet and digital literacy is crucial in order to complete the courses.

“Our intention as the government is to remove as many barriers as possible and enable young people to fulfil their dreams and career aspirations. We, therefore, encourage them to take up these opportunities,” said Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams.

This comes after the Minister’s commitment at her 2018 Budget Vote Speech, to train one million people in data science and related skills. She emphasized the importance of young people acquiring digital skills as they are imperative for achieving inclusion in the digital economy.Interested applicants can visit, www.nemisa.co.za/recruitment.
