CCBSA launches Ligbron E – learning centre in Frankfort!

The 18th of July is significant in South African history and celebrated in honour of the great legacy of Nelson Mandela. Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) is proudly committed to supporting education initiatives and empowering the younger generation to be equipped for success. In the famous words of the late icon Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. CCBSA marked this special day by opening the third and fourth centres of the Ligbron E- learning (LES) system at Thuto Mfundo Secondary School and Retshedisitswe Secondary School, to provide quality learning designed to help improve Maths and Science marks for Grade 11 and Grade 12 learners.

The Free State Premier, Sefora Ntombela and the MEC of Education, Tate Makgoe attended this event. They went through a viewing and demonstration of the E learning system, which will also benefit the larger schooling community of Villiers and Frankfort. CCBSA has invested over R4 million to date in the state of the art LES classroom technology system developed by the Ligbron Academy of Technology in 2008. CCBSA Vaal Maluti District Manager, Jarrod Piderit noted that Coca-Cola is committed to bringing positive change to schools in Fezile Dabi Municipality. He encouraged the learners to make use of this opportunity to keep improving their performance.

“The Ligbron system is here to help you access learning and you must now grab this opportunity and run with it. The sky is the limit!” he said.

This system has been implemented in eight schools in Eastern Cape and Polokwane to date, with a goal of adding eight more schools by 2021. Students from rural and underperforming schools can now be remotely connected using interactive whiteboards and audio/video streaming. They are connected with a wireless system or internet connection enabling them to share live video lessons and training material. The teachers are then able to source and share additional teaching material to assist students with other subjects. In addition, this system will empower the teachers with further training and development.
