SA receives PPE donation from China

In an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Chinese government has donated 15 boxes of protective equipment on the 13th of April which was accepted by the South African government. According to Dr Zweli Mkhize, Minister of health “This donation is going to contribute quite significantly in ensuring that we are able to get our staff protected against this infection because they are at the forefront of the infection. We do want to indicate our appreciation to the People’s Republic of China for their support,” said Mkhize.

He also confirmed that the number of COVID-19 cases has risen to 2415, an increase of 143. He says over 87000 tests have been conducted. “We are now seeing a lot more testing that is coming from the public sector. “We have got teams out there screening our communities, and they are ferrying more people for testing. We believe that this is the way that South Africa will be able to deal with this pandemic by sending out a lot of teams to identify people who might be at risk,” commented Mkhize.
