Unjani Clinic partners with Johnson and Johnson to empower mothers for Women’s Day

14 August 2017

Unjani Clinics, a sustainable initiative that aims to strengthen health systems in low-income communities throughout South Africa, partnered with the global baby brand, Johnson & Johnson to celebrate Women’s Month with an educational workshop for the mothers and babies of Kagiso.

The workshop seeks to further empower Unjani Clinic nurses through their quest to make a difference in their communities. Johnson & Johnson have been long standing partners in the scaling up of Unjani Clinics and the partnership has seen the Unjani clinic network grow from strength to strength.

“What really drew me to the collaboration with Unjani was the fact that black South African professional nurses have an opportunity to own their own business and support their local communities.” – Jacquelyn Paterson, Portfolio Manager – JOHNSON’SÂź Baby.

Unjani Clinic owners uplift their communities by providing affordable, quality primary health care. Additionally, the owners are also empowered being entrepreneurs in these underserved areas.

Women’s Day started off with JOHNSON’SÂź Baby, Mothers and Caregivers gathering to hear Unjani nurses speaking about healthy skin practices for their babies and why these practices are so important in their everyday routine.

Demonstrations and talks on the effects and benefits of baby massage from Lifestyle Blogger – Diana Hoyos of A Girl in Africa, as well a special appearance from former Miss South Africa – Bokang Montjane Tshabalala, left moms feeling inspired and enlightened.

“We wanted to do something meaningful for Women’s Day to empower Moms with more knowledge on how to care for their babies’ skin. Our partnership with Unjani gave us the opportunity to host these important workshops.” – Jacquelyn Paterson, Portfolio Manager – JOHNSON’SÂź Baby
